Tourist routes for Holiday in Apulia Italy Guide Gargano, Salento and Alberobello trullis
THE REGION: Apulia receives you with its sun, its sea, the scent of its fields, and the light of its cities. You should see it entirely, from the mysterious coves of the Gargano, through the sunny fields of the Tavoliere and the steppes of the western Murgia, pathing through the parfumed olive trees and the grassy vineyards, almonds trees and cherries, reaching Salento embraced from the Adriatic and the Ionian sea. Everywhere the signs of the various cultures and civilization stand out. Between the roughnesses of the Gargano (the cape rendered still today as the most famous in the world for the devotion to the blessed soul of Father Pio in Saint Giovanni Rotondo) receives us the basilica of Saint Michele Arcangelo, hidden between the inner routes of the mountain. Then we see the Immense Tavoliere of the Apulia, we aim along the Adriatic coast for Barletta with its castle and the places of the famous Disfida; not far after the beautiful cathedral of Trani, like a ship of stone just berthed to the wharf, it transmits to that splendid fusion of sea and earth, light and sky, religion and adventure, humanity and divinity to us that in Apulia are amalgamated and lived spontaneously. Before continuing to travel towards southeast you should aim for the Murgia, where high on a hill, tipsy the star of Federico II: the Mountain Castle. And then there is the wonderful cathedral Romanesque-apulien of Ruvo, Bitonto, Bitetto, and Bariums.
In Apulia there are the culture, the art, the civilization of eating well. The sea and the earth boast with tasty recipes that only in the atmosphere of Apulia can expresses in all their exquisiteness. The bread of the Gargano and the Murge, the hard grain paste, the vegetables cultivated at two steps from the sea, the grape and the cherrys, the extra virgin oil of olive, the almond cakes, and many more. Beans and chicories, orecchiette and turnips, orecchiette with fresh gravy of tomato and annealed cheese, cavatelli with vegetables, sea food, seaurchin, linguine to the mussels, fish to the grill, grill meat of horse, torcinelli of lamb, eggplants with parmesan, grilled peppers, zucchini to the poverella, mozzarella, burrate, caciocavalli cheese… and wine, much wine of extraordinary quality.
The apulia landscape is uniform and presents round shapes also in the higher areas. The nature wasn’t generous with Apulia. An earth struck by the winds, burnt from the sun, barren for the lack of rivers (except the Fortore and the Ofanto) of water sources and water stratums. Although the remarkable industrial development, Apulia conserve still a traditional agricultural print. On the earth, dry up for nine months per year, forests do not exist, but the twisted olive trees prosper in immense extended silver centenary yards. The gardens, often still today laboriously work (the nature to you of the ground render the use of agricultural machines problematic), produce tasty vegetables which are exported in other regions, especially in the north. Along the Adriatic there are white flowered almonds tree, of whose cultivation the Barium area have the supremacy. From the Tavoliere, the biggest plain of southern Italy, emerges the cape of the Gargàno, called “the spur” of Italy.
Holiday in Apulia Guide Gargano, Salento and Alberobello trullis.
From its elevated top, beyond 1.000 meters of height, you can see, on the Adriatic Sea, the charming Tremiti islands. In the Salentin peninsula, from the characteristic red earth, hard and strong, they mature the sweetest fig fruits and, where it succeeds to take root, there are cultivated low wine yards. Wines, like the Squinzano and the Trani, are very strong and are use in all Italy in order “to cut” other wines. Apuglia is the Italian region that today occupies the first place in the grape production. Also the Murge, barren relief of carsick type, eroded from the water of the rain, is laboriously cultivated from the inhabitants. And here you find the splendid coves of Castellana and the famous “trulli” of Alberobello. Around Foggia and in all the Tavoliere(plateau) the grain and oats are cultivated. Great industrial complexes where built to Taranto, to Brindisi, to Bariums, and give job to million of persons, even if recently they have endured the effects of the economic recession. Unfortunately, also in Apulia during the last few years it has taken to foot the organized rubberies, that creates problems to the development of the economy. The Barium port, opened towards the Balkans and the Middle East, and the trades and military one of Taranto they are in full efficiency. The Puglia, until a few years ago, was not a so known from the Italians, but its charming landscapes and the hospitality of it’s people attract more and more the tourists today.
